What makes a good website?

People use the internet today to get information or to purchase something - quickly.

At Mibec Communications we bypass the fancy graphics and the flash intro's.  How many times have you become frustrated by blinking mailboxes, intro's that take forever to load, and sound files that drive you crazy?  Let's face it, it's the clean, simple sites with rich content that we keep going back to because it is easy to find what we're looking for when we're looking for it!  

 

When building your site there are a few basic things to keep in mind:

• Keep it simple
  Clean lines, lots of white space and easy navigation will result in a satisfying experience for your visitors. 
   
• Leave the animation and fancy graphics out
  The fancy stuff will not only frustrate your potential customers, but it will also impact the time it takes for your site to load.  A well chosen picture is worth a thousand words, but all visuals and little or no words will not persuade your customers to take action!  Besides, search engines cannot read pictures.
   
• Content is king
  Valuable content is driven by what the customer needs, not what you are selling.  To understand what your customer needs, you must understand his/her business problems and then provide content that addresses it.  Your customer should be able to enter your site, immediately recognize one or more of his business problems, and quickly understand that you have a solution that might address it. 
   
• Make sure your message is clear
  The first page your visitors will visit is your home page.  It's important that your home page communicates clearly, quickly and simply:
  1. what's on your site
  2. how to get there
  3. how to contact you
  4. why your visitors should continue to look through your site.
